The Nomenclature Bill 2000--S2305 Substitute A passed and became law effective 7/12/00.
5-30-1.1. Chiropractor and chiropractic references. -- All references in the general laws to "chiropractor" or "chiropractors" shall be changed to read "chiropractic physician" or "chiropractic physicians" as appropriate and all references to the practice of "chiropractic" shall be construed to refer to the practice of "chiropractic medicine" as defined in section 5-30-1.
BC/BS of Rhode Island changed all its policies to immediately after passage of the law to reflect the language "Chiropractic Physicians" practicing "Chiropractic Medicine" This became effective prior to the first BC Specialty Advisory Committee meeting.
The Department of Health then promulgated the law throughout its Rules and Regulations effective 6/28/01.

AN ACT RELATING TO CHIROPRACTIC
A Reviser’s bill RI Statutes referenced to "chiropractor(s)"to be amended "chiropractic physician (s)" under existing definition chapter 5-30-1 1.) The nomenclature "chiropractors" be changed to read "chiropractic physicians" per SECTION 5-30-11 All reference to chiropractic should read chiropractic physician in the General Laws. 2.) The nomenclature "chiropractic" be amended "chiropractic medicine" per SECTION 5-37-1 All regulation shall conform to the existing language in the statute.
